The Man from Fiume

My grandfather, Rodolfo Celin, was born in Fiume, a city that during his lifetime saw its flag, language, and identity change multiple times.

He was an Istrian refugee, part of that generation of Italians who, after World War II and the political tensions that followed, were forced to leave their homeland. Fiume was no longer the same city where he grew up, and with a heavy heart, he had to leave, abandoning his home, his family, and his roots.

But my grandfather did not give up. He was a man who, despite the scars of history, knew that true strength does not lie in the land we walk on but in the heart that guides us. He did not bow to difficulties; instead, he turned them into his shield and weapon. He started over, working tirelessly to build a new life for himself and his family.
